For sailors with water ballast

A small and simple app that also works with first-generation transmitters. It assists the pilot with cues and auditory tones.

Initial situation

In the sailplane, there is a water pump that is controlled similar to a servo. For ground testing, a short press of a button is sufficient, while using another momentary push button triggers a sequencer that operates the pump for a defined period of time.

It’s important that the sequencer doesn’t directly control the pump (leave channel free from influence!). Instead, it’s processed with a logical switch. In the logical switch, the sequencer and the test switch are combined using an ‘OR’ function. Then, in the ‘Functions and Controls’ menu, the logical switch is assigned as an input for the pump.

Installation and Setup

Installation and display setup as described here.

In the left example, the first cycle was selected using a push button. An announcement ‘1’ is made, along with the sound of flowing water. On the display, a portion is deducted from the ballast (in the example, 500mL or approximately 500g).

With a second push button, we perform a ground test each time. Since it’s a small quantity, this is not further accounted for in the app. However, the activation is also confirmed acoustically with a short ‘drop’ sound.

After the installation and setup of the window, you can access the app from the main menu…

…and here, select the two switches as well as the quantities. In this example, I’m using the two unused trim buttons of the throttle. For the water switch, trigger at +100%, and for the test switch, at -100%.

Have Fun with the App!
